To configure GroupMail to send messages through Gmail’s SMTP server, follow these instructions:
1. Open GroupMail and click on “Tools”, “Account Manager” and click “New” to create a new sender account.
2. Complete the User Information on the Account Properties screen using your Gmail email address as the “From” address.

3. Click on the “Delivery Options” tab and enter smtp.gmail.com as the SMTP server and check the “Requires Authentication” box. Click Setup.

4. Check the “Use SMTP Authentication (outbound) box, keeping “AUTH Login (default)” and enter your full Gmail email address and password for that account. Click OK.

5. Click on the Advanced button at the bottom of the “Delivery Options” screen and change the SMTP Port from 25 to 587 and check the “Server Requires an SSL Connection” box (keeping the default STARTTLS setting). Click OK.

6. Test your settings by clicking the Test button at the bottom of the “Delivery Options” screen and “Test” again.

7. Close the Test screen and click OK on the Account Properties screen to save your settings.
If you have more than one Gmail account, you can create a new GroupMail Sender Account for each Gmail account that you have.

Glad it helped Ali!
Hi fc909. All mail servers have limits on how many messages you can send each day. Gmail is no exception. As a matter of fact, when connecting remotely to the Gmail server, you are only allowed to send 100-150 messages/day per Gmail address.
You will have to find a mail server that will allow you to send 45,000 emails/day (unless you want to spread the mailing out over several days.)
See the blog post below for options.
SMTP Mail Server Options (GroupMail Blog)
hello i am using groupmail with gmail email account and try to send introduction emails to 45.000 emails but i can only send 20 – 22 emails then it blocks to send email. can someone help…
Eric, yes you will be restricted in the amount of messages you send with any mail server and particularly free mail servers such as Gmail. Visit our GroupMail blog at http://blog.group-mail.com and search for the post “SMTP mail server options”
I would link you directly, but I’m on the road and commenting on my phone
Glad you found it useful Lee!
THANK YOU so much for this! Helped enormously.
Tom,
My company is using GMail free email hosting, so that’s mean my company use Groupmail to send more then 100 users at a time? Unless I get a premium one instead of going for those SMTP relay service.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks Bhavesh. GroupMail is the best in my mind.
Thank you very much. This was really useful tutorial. But is there any better software which can be used for email marketing?
Thanks a ton!!
Thanks. It helped a lot.
Thanks so much! Merci beaucoup! Grazie mille! It is the best help I found on the web!
Best instructions ever! Thanks so much!
Dear Tom,
The test feature works fine with me, but when I tried to send a preview of the mail I wish to send I got a “socket timeout” error. I set the timeout to 5 minutes just in case but it didn’t chage anything.
could you give a hint how to solve the problem ?
cheers
Oli
Can someone help me configure GroupMail 5 for my Google Apps email account?
Great! Thank you so much, it took me hours to figure this out!
Hi Robert. We don’t sell or rent email lists. We only sell email marketing software.
Be careful pursuing a list of 1,000,000 addresses. The average cost for an email list from a reputable broker is $170/thousand emails (B2C) or $277/thousand emails (B2B). If someone offers you a list of one million address for $199, you can be pretty sure that there will be plenty of invalid addresses on that list and potentially some spam trap addresses.
See my blog post below for more information.
Email Marketing: Growing Your In-House Email List
Good luck.

Hi Samir. You can configure GroupMail to send through any SMTP server you have access to. Usually, domain-hosted servers are more liberal with their daily sending limitations than free email services (like Gmail) or ISPs are.
Alternatively, you could route your messages through a secondary SMTP server such as http://www.authsmtp.com. Of course, you will need to use either the GroupMail Personal or Business Edition, as the Free Edition limits you to 100 message at a time.
Hi, thanks for the info, works great sending less than 100 messages. Is there a way to send 4000 messages at a time using a gmail account or from a domain using gmail’s infrastructure? I currently have 10 accounts configured in groupmail and partialy send emails to a list of more than 4 thousand contacts. I’m getting tired of sending 100, then 100, then 100 more with each different account. Any ideas?
Hi Samir. No. Gmail has a limit of 100 messages for remote connections to their SMTP server. You could contact your ISP or web hosting company and see what their daily send limit is or take on a secondary SMTP server such as http://www.authsmtp.com and route your messages through their server.
